I thought of doing a weekly Top 10, to showcase some new artists that may be known or unknown to you. But at the time I could only get to Top 5. Anyhow I just wanted to put it out there. All the artists are on Myspace of course, go find them…

Drop us a line, and Let us know what you are listening to and what we all need to check out. Something drops daily, and I am constantly getting hit with new singles in the email.

1. The Niyat- “Do’s and Don’ts”

Great track, simple, and clean. Life is not a destination it’s a Journey. The Niyat ( Snap and Khalif) have been around for quite a while on the Houston Underground tip, and they have really come up on this one. They have aged quite well, and with Mirage having a hand in their production, I predict they will continue to do well. . myspace.com/niyat

2. K-Rino- “Holla at Me”

K-Rino is a Legendary superstar well known In Houston. He has been putting it down for a minute, respected and admired Mc. My ex Kris of Kinetik Cinematix just hooked up a really sweet video for this song. It’s pretty hot and pretty serious. Makes you really think.. about life.

3. Monte Negro - “Give me Love, No Llores”

I discovered Monte Negro at SXSW this year, and really fell for this L.A. group. They are a mix of reggae, ska, rock, latino influenced. According to their Bio, they became exhausted with being called the Latino version of Red Hot Chili Peppers. It may be accurate, but also not entirely true. Bands and New Music in general have potential to be called and compared to everyone else who came before or after them. Musicians are heavily influenced by others, and this is impossible to avoid. They aren’t reinventing the wheel, so to speak. They do it in their own way, lot’s of talent and continuous potential. Great sound.

4. 60 Tigers- ” Los Emigrantes”

I am absolutely loving this band right now. Also a SXSW discovery this group hails from Monterrey, Mexico and are so cute and stylish, including their fans. The whole Monterrey thing is a bit contagious, I’m partial to the city because that’s where my great grandmother came from. This song reminds me for some reason of summer love in the 80’s. Their whole Lp is incredible and diverse. It’s happy and made for ‘perfect weather’. It’s springy, and sunny, it totally makes me want to jump in a car and take a road trip across the country, with the extras! One minute they are rock and funk, the next they are alternative ambient. Their range is really great and they succeed with out sounding the same on every track. Love, love love them!!! myspace.com/sesentatigres

5. Flying Lotus -”My Chippy” & “Roberta Flack ft. Dolly”

I have only just discovered producer Flying Lotus because the Niyat just sampled one of his beats, on one their new tracks. Mirage is singing over this incredible beat, and although it’s a short intro, I really love it. Mirage is crooning about His range, and one can’t hardly tell he is asking some girl to come over and drop her drawls. It’s an unexpected nasty ballad that’s really quite cute.

I am just now investigating this Flying Lotus, and I am always the last to know, I am sure everyone knows this man already, but just now hearing it for the first time and I’m completely amazed. Looks like he is doing some European shows right now, they can totally appreciate this shit. His beats are thick and chunky, total mix of drum n b, I would totally love to hear this music, sitting underground somewhere in a stylish well lit lounge, sipping on a good Malbec. myspace.com/flyinglotus
